In its simplest form, massage involves the rubbing, kneading and stretching of soft body tissues, like muscle, tendons and ligaments. However, in the right hands, massage can accomplish a range of positive benefits for your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
There are many different forms of massage, and I offer the following:

Holistic massage

I believe body and mind are inseparable; when we take care of one, we look after the other. In my holistic massage sessions, I will work with you as a whole, nurturing both your physical and mental wellbeing.

Holistic massage can help with muscle tightness and soreness, headaches, neck and shoulder pain, lower back issues, circulation problems and poor sleep. It can also reduce stress and help to address health issues caused by stress, such as digestion problems, psoriasis and high blood pressure. The element of self-care should not be discounted too; it feels good to look after yourself!

Your massage can be as deep or as gentle as you like, and depending on your needs, I may include more long strokes and holds or joint mobilisation and percussive strokes, as well as myofascial release.

Deep tissue/ remedial/ sports massage

Every massage practitioner defines deep tissue massage differently. I think of it as a focused massage on a group of muscles that require attention or are particularly tight or stiff. I perform this type of massage with very little or no oil at all.

We can decide on the day whether you’d like a holistic or deep tissue massage – or even a combination of the two. As well as discussing your needs, we’ll talk about how ‘deep’ you’d like the massage to be. In my experience, we all have different ideas about the ‘perfect pressure’ and I’ll do my best to find yours! Following our conversation, I will carry out some postural assessment and passive/active mobility tests (when needed) to get a better picture of any tight or congested areas in your body.

Sports massage can help with injury rehabilitation and is often prescribed as part of a recovery plan. My qualifications and experience of working alongside osteopaths means I’m very comfortable working with long or short term injury recovery strategies

Pregnancy massage

Pregnancy is a very special time in a woman’s life. In addition to being filled with excitement, it can be a daunting period, and can cause some physical and mental stress. Pregnancy massage can be a welcome relief from physical discomfort, and a place for relaxation and reassurance.

My education in pregnancy and post-natal massage means I understand the processes and changes that a woman’s body goes through during pregnancy. This helps me give a massage that is safe, appropriate for each trimester, and creates the most benefits for mother and child.

My priorities are creating a safe, relaxing space and listening to my client so I can give her the treatment that best meets her needs on the day. If you would like to talk to me before booking a session, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

How it works

If you’d like to have a massage but aren’t sure where to start, the best thing to do is get in touch, either by email or phone. I’ll ask you some simple questions and we can discuss which kind of massage is right for you. (If you already know what you want, just go ahead and book!)

At the end of the session, I often give my clients some self-care advice. This may be in the form of stretches, strengthening exercises, or even suggestions on how to carve out some ‘me’ time in your busy life. The benefits of massage should never stop at the end of the session.

Cancelling or re-scheduling your booking

My time is committed to you as soon as we arrange an appointment and I add it to my calendar. However, I understand that your plans have to change sometimes. To ensure my consistent income, I kindly ask you to give me at least 24 hours’ notice when you need to cancel or re-schedule your appointment. This allows me to offer your appointment time to someone else and saves me from charging you. Cancelled or re-arranged session with less than 24 hour notice will regrettably be charged for at full price.

The best way to contact me if you need to re-schedule or cancel your session is by calling or texting me on 07523 562076. If there is no answer, please leave me a voicemail. I don’t check my emails regularly when I work.

I appreciate your understanding and respect of my cancellations and re-scheduling policy.
